ABOUT US:As owners of The Ark Workshop, we’ve been designing and building wildlife housing & feeders for over 30 years. We've been fortunate to have had many of our products sold in popular retail chains in the United States. When creating houses or feeders, our primary focus is to create designs that will be used by specific wildlife. Much research and time goes into that. We’ve literally spent years refining every design. We’ve found that there are certain features a house/feeder needs to have for wildlife to accept it, use it, and then return to use it again! Through our personal experiences, thousands of customer correspondences, and years of research … we’ve discovered some valuable insights that have helped us create these wildlife-specific products. Whenever possible, we always try to include a picture of the product in use so that you know that is has a proven track record. Thanks for considering our items and for visiting our shop. We hope we can be of service to you today! Mark & Jane.

RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER BACKGROUND:
Red-bellied Woodpeckers are common to backyard bird feeders. Their red capped heads make them a memorable sight. Although called red-bellied, the red is more distinguishable on their heads versus the small patch of red on their bellies. Many mistakenly refer to this as the red-headed woodpecker. Y
ou should be able to attract them using feeders filled with suet, peanuts, and sunflower seeds. Their flight is a swooping motion and their larger size is more evident when observing them feeding among other birds at your feeders. They like nesting in dead trees because they can easily bore through the decaying wood.
Red-bellied Woodpeckers are loud and call frequently during spring and summer. They have sleek, rounded heads with a red cap on the head. They often appear pale, overall, but have white patches on their wingtips. You can often spot them in trees by the way they shuffling along branches ..... a kind of side step movement. L
ike most woodpeckers, these birds have a characteristic undulating flight pattern.
WOODPECKER HOUSE DESIGN:
This WOODPECKER HOUSE comes fully assembled & ready to use when it arrives. There are two sets of measurements provided. One is taken from the widest parts of the house (backboard & roof edges). The other measurement is of the house body. This should give you a thorough feel of house size. However, the important detail is that this house has a track record of getting woodpeckers (see pics). It is made of all CEDAR and built to the specifications to accommodate woodpeckers. The house is assembled with all 3 fasteners .... glue, nails, and screws ...... making it very strong and durable. The entrance hole is the required 2" hole size allowing for easy entrance & exit of this larger bird. The interior front door has ladder cleats which enable the baby birds to easily climb out once ready. Also included is a door latch which will keep the mother and her babies safe inside. The floor is recessed upward which will keep the bottom dry by not allowing water to wick up. The front swivels forward which makes cleaning easy and safe. The roof is shingled with cedar slats which provide durability as well as a decorative look.
Important mounting and placement instructions are included.
House placement is important with this design and will help encourage occupancy. All needed information is provided.
WOODPECKER HOUSE CONSTRUCTION:
This house is made of all cedar and is the correct size for large woodpeckers. We use all 3 fasteners (nails, screws, and glue) when building our products. This creates a very durable item. Nails alone will not hold up against mother nature. Glue alone will not. Screws might. We use all 3. This house has pre-drilled holes on the back board so that you can insert screws and then mount the house wherever you want. You can mount it to a tree or to the side of your house or in an area that you feel the robin will nest or has nested before. The roof is shingled with a cedar layered roof which will provide years of durability.
