a circa 1914 Real Photo postcard showing
a Ski Jumping Event
Photo is by A.T. Segrud, Canton, South Dakota.
Internet search shows that Segrud was most active in Canton between about 1897 and 1915.
Strong magnification reveals that the ramp is short and it has an American Flag at it’s ‘lip’.
The competitor appears to be wearing the number “2”.
This divided back card has an ARTURA stampbox (1908 – 1924).
This circa 1914 Real Photo postcard is in very good overall condition.
No flaws of note.
Background
: In 1912, a group of Norwegians visiting Augustana College suggested that a steep hill on the Iowa side of the Big Sioux River would good ski jumping slope.  Augustana College was located in Canton, South Dakota before moving to Sioux Falls.  It's now known as Augustana University.  Students set up a jump and established a ski club.  A few years later, the Sioux Valley Ski Club was formed, and a larger ramp was built on a longer, steeper slope nearby.
